You may be surprised at how many jobs require an understanding of chemistry. You will learn that not just chemists need a good chemistry foundation. 

Part 1

There are so many jobs that require some chemistry knowledge. You need a good chemistry foundation for many pathways, so it may be a good idea to take Chemistry 11 and 12 in high school. Here is a list of some occupations that require chemistry:

 - Organic Chemist                    - Research Scientist                 - Doctor

 - Pharmacist                              - Toxicologist                            - Veterinary Sciences

 - Forensic Scientist                   - Inorganic Chemist                 - Infectious Disease

 - Teacher                                   - Custodian                               - Welder

Part 2

Chose an occupation from the above list that interests you. You will create a pamphlet/poster depicting the career you chose. If you didn't find an occupation that interested mentioned above, you can pick something else but remember you need to find out how that career is related to chemistry. I used Canva.com to create the example below, you are able to design yours however you want, as long as you answer the questions below.

 

Questions to fill out:

  1. What is the occupation you chose?

  2. Description of the occupation

  3. Why are you interested in this career?

  4. Occupation conditions; where would you have to work, what are your job duties, how many hours a week do you work?

  5. Your education; do you need Chemistry 11 and 12, how many degrees, diplomas do you need, how many years, which post-secondary school can you go to?

  6. How is chemistry involved with your occupation?

  7. Name at least 1 advantage and 1 disadvantage to this career.

  8. Why? Why not, would you be suited for this occupation? Do you think that you will pursue this career path?
